Conformation Shows

Conformation shows are held to ensure that our GSPs conform to the original German Breed Standard. This Standard was developed by Breed Wardens in Germany to make sure that only the best dogs which are sound and fit are used for breeding and hunting.

The breeder of your puppy may consider it to be of show quality and encourage you to enter a conformation show. At a show the dog will be assessed by a qualified judge in regard to its appearance, attitude and movement, and compared to other dogs of the same breed and of a similar age. Your dog will be expected to run around a small roped off area on a lead and to be 'stood up' for the judge to run their hands over and assessed.

As your pup grows older and more experienced in the show ring it may qualify for a Challenge Certificate by beating every other German Shorthaired Pointer of its own sex on the day. After 100 points have been earned your dog is awarded its Australian Champion Dog title and a new registration certificate is issued with the title recorded. A dog can become a Grand Champion by winning 1000 points, equal to becoming a Champion ten times over.
